DESCRIPTION
We come across amazing examples of effective, powerful organising in our work, from groundbreaking online campaigns to powerful vigils on Parliament Lawns. We sought a way to collect them, not only to provide a history of pioneering online activism, but also to provide a guide for all of us who work on such campaigns.
‘E:volution of Change‘ is Make Believe’s contribution to this field. This new book examines the best examples of online to offline organising, finds out exactly how they worked behind the scenes – and shows how to learn from their success. Throughout the photographic essay you’ll see examples of creative and strategic online-offline organising used to campaign on issues from water pollution in China to taxing financial transactions.
Along the way, we found that the most impactful campaigns combine the best of new social media strategy with time-honoured techniques of building power and exerting influence. Starting with the 2004 Dean campaign – one of the first political campaigns to successfully marry online and field organising – we track the evolution of these techniques in the digital age, and celebrate what has already been achieved. Now, it’s time to imagine what could come next.
